Learning & Development

We believe in giving our employees every chance to realise their full potential.

As well as job-specific training, tailored to the individual employee, Winton hosts regular expert speakers through its Winton Lectures programme.

Career development opportunities at Winton are also extensive. Since Winton is a fast-moving firm, employees are frequently offered new roles, often with a chance to move to another of our eight international offices.

A Research Culture

Ongoing learning is a feature of working at Winton – we are constantly looking to identify and access the best ideas, and to stay up-to-date with the latest relevant scientific and technological developments. Our library is large and wide-ranging, and is updated whenever employees become aware of a new release that could give us new insights. In addition, our historical finance exhibition and chart room is a unique educational resource that inspires our research efforts. And our full-day offsites help to foster the cross-pollination of different research strands.

Technology

Winton is committed to open source software collaboration – please see our GitHub page for examples of our projects with the open source community. We hold a hackathon, the Winton Technical Challenge, annually and we also host a number of additional internal competitions.

As well as writing for our tech blog, employees regularly sponsor and participate in conferences, meet ups and external competitions. These include the conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (NIPS), EuroPython and Advent of Code.

Ventures

Entrepreneurialism is an important facet of Winton’s success and the firm’s ventures activities include initiatives that have been spun out of the company’s core investment management operations, and investments in external companies. The firm has direct investments in 18 companies – including some originated within Winton - with further indirect investments in close to 100 other start-ups through external funds. Winton is also a corporate sponsor of CyLon, a world-leading cyber security accelerator programme whose London branch is based in Winton’s headquarters.

Charitable Giving

Employees are supported in their charitable endeavours with Winton offering payroll giving and match funding. Payroll Giving allows UK based employees to donate to charities from their gross pay, giving full and immediate tax relief. Winton’s Match Funding scheme entitles employees to have their charitable giving and fundraising matched up to the value of £10,000 per year.
