There has been a fever of excitement surrounding the field of artificial intelligence (AI). This is particularly focussed on deep learning, an application of neural networks which has been associated with some high profile successes such as winning the game of Go. AI has been the holy grail of computer scientists since the dawn of the information age. Is any of this history relevant to today’s efforts to commercialise artificial intelligence and deep learning within investment management?
Winton invited investors and academics to discuss this at a conference held at its London Headquarters in September 2016. As an introduction to the event, Winton screened a short film which addresses some of the myths associated with advances in AI.
